School success for kids with high-functioning autism

Based on the new criteria in the DSM-5, School Success for Kids With High-Functioning Autism describes how autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and social communication disorders (SCD) will now identify the students formerly identified as having Asperger's syndrome, Nonverbal Learning Disorder, high-functioning autism, or PDD-NOS. Relying on the latest research, and presenting it in easy-to-understand and practical language, the authors identify how the key components of ASD and SCD will appear to parents and professionals and what steps should be taken once these signs are evident. -book description

"Give A Voice" Program offers communication devices

National Autism Association's "Give A Voice" Program offers communication devices to people with Autism who are non-verbal.
Apply by June 15.

The National Autism Association has announced their newest program, "Give A Voice." This program provides assistive communication devices for people with Autism who are non-verbal or minimally verbal, and whose communication challenges put them at increased risk of injury or harm. The program provides a 16GB iPad Mini, a protective case, and an Avatalker AAC Augmentative and Alternative Communication Software app.

Eligibility requirements include:
•Only parents or legal guardians may apply on behalf of their child/adult with Autism
•The individual you are applying for must be 4 years old or older
•The individual you are applying for must have an Autism Spectrum Disorder with documentation from a physician
•You must also provide a current evaluation/recommendation from a speech/language professional

The puberty video for boys with asperger syndrome

The Puberty Video for Boys with Asperger Syndrome (and Autism Spectrum Disorder - Level 1) is narrated by a young man with Asperger Syndrome and a neurotypical female co-host and features anatomical drawings and animation. It describes how male and female bodies change during puberty and how to deal with these changes (and urges) in appropriate ways that avoid social, ethical, and legal pitfalls. Information about intercourse, periods, pregnancy, birth control, sexually transmitted diseases, and more are also included.
