Jed Baker will present the workshop "All Kids Can Succeed" on April 15, 2015, in Avon, Indiana. The workshop, sponsored by the Indiana Resource Center for Autism in collaboration with Avon Community School Corporation, describes how to handle meltdowns and design effective behavior plans to prevent these moments and reduce frustration and anxiety. The second part of the presentation details strategies to motivate students to learn, ways to teach social skills, how to generalize skills into the natural setting and increase acceptance and tolerance from peers.

Funds for Attending Trainings
The Consumer Investment Fund (CIF) implemented by the Indiana Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities (GPCPD) can help individuals with disabilities and family members with funding to participate in educational events. Educational activities include conferences, workshops, and other training formats as well as attendance at public forums, hearings, and task force meetings.

ADOS-2 in April 2015
Did you miss the last Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule
workshop? Well, here's some good news! Another two-day workshop has been scheduled for the end of April. This workshop will provide a unique opportunity to learn directly from a co-author of the ADOS-2. The five modules of the ADOS-2 will be outlined. Included will be video demonstrations of administration of some of the modules. There will be an opportunity to practice and discuss the scoring criteria. The clinical use of the ADOS-2 will also be discussed.
This workshop will be held in Indianapolis on April 28th and 29th.

Incidence of Autism Still on the Rise
"In 2008, based on a sample of 8 year olds, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported that the prevalence of autism had risen to 1 in 88 in American children. By 2010, using a similar sample, it was announced that the incidence had climbed to 1 in 68. Based on these latest numbers, 1 in 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls are being diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Two years ago in a national telephone survey of 100,000 families, the incidence was projected at 1 in 50. (Note: Different data collection methods will often yield differing results.)"
